How To Update An Old Chair

Overview
Start with an old chair and remove the cushion. Sand the chair, wipe clean, and paint it the color of your choice. While it is drying, rip off the old fabric. Use the old cushion to trace it onto the new foam. Staple everything together on the underside of the chair. Staple the fabric on top of everything, smoothing as you go. Put the chair back together and you have a whole new chair!
Step 1
Prep Your Chair
Remove the cushion from your chair, then sand the chair and wipe clean.
Step 2
Paint the Chair
Paint your chair the color of your choice.

Remove Old Fabric and Trace
Rip off the old fabric and use the base of the seat to trace onto new foam.
Step 4
Reupholster the Chair
Staple everything together on the underside of the chair. The layers from top to bottom would be: fabric, batting, foam, wood seat.
Step 5
Add the Fabric
Be sure to staple the fabric on top of everything, smoothing as you go.
Step 6
Trim the Fabric
Trim the fabric on the underside of the chair, so that it lays flat.
Step 7
Put Chair Back Together
Put your chair back together using the screws that came with your chair, then have a seat after all that hard work!
