    Batteries won't hold charge
The 18V Single Source battery worked great for about 9 charges and now won't hold a charge at all. If I could find another battery I was sure would work I would buy that one.

    Batteries wear out extremely fast.

I am not sure what typy cells are in this battrey. It's web page "tech specs" only states "voltage 18 volts" and does not state that it rechargable.
I am somewhat afrid to put it in my B&D ni-cad charger since the battery does not say ni-cad, but states "single source" What in the world does that mean? So since it fits into my charger, and the HPB18'S are ni-cad's, I will assume mine is also, I will give it a try, since it has a 2 year warranty. B&D needs to doing a better job in identifying this product. I have had three of the HPB18 ni-cad's destroyed by faulty chargers that came with my Firestorm tools, but after buying my new big ni-cad charger, I am getting good performance from the remaining battery.

    Switching Brands
I was an old B&D since I started buying corded tools as a teen (Now in my 60s!)and swore by their quality. About ten years ago I started investing in 18V NiCad cordless and was satisfied and prepared to replace batteries as needed. Unfortunately I had poor results from the 18V brad nailer and discovered it was discontinued, no doubt from the endless problems others reported. Then in the past couple of years I was astounded by the B&D decision to bring out the better lithium ion batteries and NOT make their older tools compatible so you would have to invest in tools all over again! That was the last straw and I have after many years switched to the Ryobi brand where tools and chargers take either types of batteries. Sorry B&D but your decision to force older and loyal customers into buying new tools is just greedy and short sighted!

The portability and power of 18V tools is handy and needed when working in areas where no electricity is available.

The different quality and durability of B&D 18V NiCad batteries is too hit and miss. There is also no reason that B&D could not have engineered their older tools to accept the newer and more dependable 18V lithium batteries that are today's standard across the different brands. As such, I have given up on B&D brand. The frustration and poor quality of their 18V brad nailer, now discontinued was one more thing making me switch to a competing brand.

This is the worst 18v battery I have ever used
I bought a tree lopper and this batter was shipped with it. I have used it about 10 times and each time I use it, the battery runs flat faster. I am really surprises that B&D have the temerity to sell such a rubbish product - built in China to a price (which is obviously pennies judging by the performance)and it shows. A decent aftermarket replacement battery would be to expensive, so I am going write this off as a duff purchase and go and buy a Ryobi pruner. Damned annoying. Never have this sort of problem with Bosche products.

It has the power of a cat fart after 10 uses. It is not fit for purpose.

Good overall design, NiCad battery very poor performance
B&D has earned a good rep in the home repair field but is fast loosing it . The tools are reliable and work well, but inn this case, the 18v Firestorm Slide pack battery is very poor. B&D will not replace them, and there is no Li replacement for them. I have 6 FS tools and 10 (!) battery packs. Only two will hod a charge and they are the most expensive HPB18-OPE model. And they work less and less every time I use them. 500 charges? HA! Maybe 25 before the first ones failed. The silver ones are no longer sold. the all black ones were trash to start with , only to lower the initial price. I note the previous comment about a too high charging voltage. I use the wall mount 1hr rapid charger and it seems to be the best. The little redlite chargers are a waste. If B&D would design and sell a Li replacement for the Firestorm line, they could salvage their rep, but it ain't gonna happen. Sad. Sic Gloria Mundi.

portability, ease of use, one battery many tools.

Lack of B&D support, Lack of B&D admitting a mistake. Poor battery life. Too expensive for no replacement.

charger's too much high voltage output for 18 volts battery
most chargers black decker give with power tools and trimmmers i found out they charge at too much high voltage for a 18 volts battery those chargers come with a 24 volts to 26 volts output at this voltage it kills battery's it should be 20 volts but the best charger i have at home is the big orange charger 9.6 to 18 volts battery's one from black decker those charger's are fine after charging my 18 volts battery i test with my multimeter and the voltage current was close to 21 volts this is acceptable not overcharge.

better multi volt charger model BDMVC-CA gives me close to 21 volts after charging my 18 volts battery . give 5 stars for the the orange multi charger

those black plastic charger's black deckers give with tools the output of the chargers is very too high output voltage.

Not at all impressed. Discharges too fast. Charges too slow.
I purchased a B&D String Trimmer with 2 of these batteries. I also purchased a B&D leaf blower that included 1 of these batteries. I cannot complete my trimming in one session even using all 3 batteries. This is a pathetic situation and out of character for a quality product or company.

On paper the design looks great. Several tools use the same battery.

I wish I had not purchased these tools. I may take them back and get something with a real battery.

Bob1721 obviously works for Black & Decker
The website sucks, the batteries are well below par. My son has a cordless set (Makita I think) with a Lithium ion battery set. They charge in about 20 minutes. The Black & Decker "Rapid Charger" takes about an hour.

    Battery life.
