2 Year Limited Warranty

Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. warrants this product for two (2) years against any defects in material or workmanship. The defective product will be replaced or repaired at no charge in either of two ways.

The first, which will result in exchanges only, is to return the product to the retailer from whom it was purchased (provided that the store is a participating retailer). Returns should be made within the time period of the retailer?s policy for exchanges (usually 30 to 90 days after the sale). Proof of purchase may be required. Please check with the retailer for their specific return policy regarding returns that are beyond the time set for exchanges.

The second option is to take or send the product (prepaid) to a Black & Decker owned or authorized Service Center for repair or replacement at our option. Proof of purchase may be required. Black & Decker owned and authorized Service Centers are listed under "Tools-Electric" in the yellow pages of the phone directory.

This warranty does not apply to accessories. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may have other rights which vary from state to state or province to province.     Originally I rated this as a waste of money. It would run through a spool of line doing one edge of the short driveway. The only advantage was it was very powerful. I decided to play around with it. After a bunch of hit and misses I discovered it actually worked great if I used only one line - not two. Also loaded only the top line (closest to the ground). This thing has been buzzing through my edging like a champ ever since. It has so much power that it makes perfectly straight edges about as fast as I can walk, even if there is a thick patch of crabgrass. Occasionally it reverts to eating a bunch of line. I simply stop and rewind the line and all is well. I am willing to put up with this quirkiness since it does such a good job, very quickly.
    Pros:

    It's power.

    Cons:

    It works only with one line and every so often will digest a large chunk of line while cutting nothing. Having to rewind the line is annoying.

    I bought my first B&D trimmer about 4 years ago and I use it a lot. I found out early-on to "carefully" put in a new spool and never really had a problem. Since I use it hard, my first one finally wore out and I had to replace it the other day. The only one I looked at was an identical "High Performance 7.2A 14" String Trimmer". It has power when I need it!
    Pros:

    I like the power - it really gets the job done. I also love the dual strings - much better than a "one-string" trimmer.

    Cons:

    Reloading a new spool can be a bit tricky - but I've made it work just fine.

    The only thing this would be good for is to put it in the designers butt and turn it on. Spools do not feed. So you constantly have to buy more. The gears burn and melt. The first one I had I used a total of maybe six times and the seventh the gears melted that was over a period of two year. Cheap Chinese garbage furnished by B&D. I was dumb enough to buy another. This time when it breaks, I will send it to B&D and just say shove it. TOO BAD THIS DOSEN'T HAVE A MINUS 5 STAR RATING

    i bought this trimmer on 07/11/2012 and returned it on 07/12/2012. it didnt even want to turn on,, i returned it and got me another brand, so for the new one is way better because it turned on, last time i bought a trimmer from black and decker i bought it on sale, it broke down same day and i throw it in the trash, it seems every time i buy a black and decker i end up given it to the city dump every i buy from them goes in the trash, i will never buy a black and decker again, will tell everyone to stay away from them no matter how much its on sale,

    none, just that i got my money back,

    seems i end up throwing every thing in the trash from black and decker

    First of all before i write my review i would like to scold most of the other 14 reviews written about this product, BE NICE! maybe if your product malfunctioned its because you’re an idiot and you don’t know how to work the machine. I’m sure the nice people at black and decker inc. have worked very hard to produce this cost effective electric trimmer and for you to come out here and angrily slander the product is very disrespectful and quite frankly it hurts my heart that humans would treat other humans with such disrespect. Anyways overall for the price i found i found this trimmer to be very COST EFFECTIVE and if you don’t like itt buy a more expensive higher quality trimmer there is a reason it only cost 70 dollars.

    I've had 2 of these. First one failed on first use. Returned it for warranty replacement. Second one lasted through 2 uses. Both of them failed when drive belt jumped off sprocket and destroyed drive gear on motor.
    Pros:

    I learned my lesson and will never buy another B&D product.

    Cons:

    Extremely poor engineering. Quick to market and quick to fail.

    I purchased the grasshog xp last summer and ran the whole season on one spool of string. This summer, early, the spool ran out. The auto-adjust made the re-spooling tricky and seems to be the major frustration with this model. I too almost threw it out as the auto adjust mechanism would just chew through the new string in minutes. The manuel has specific instructions on how to re-spool the string. If you do not follow it exactly, the string runs too fast through the system. Once I figured it out, its been running fine. Two points in particular are critical: first, wind the string snugly around the spool. Second, do not over-fill the spool. Wind one layer of string around the spool and then secure. With my old bump adjust edger, I could wind it with many layers loose are firm and it worked fine. Not so with this edger. Wind it right and it will work fine.
    Pros:

    The Power is almost too much. I could cut down a redwood with this thing. I like the frame design and the twisting head for edging or trimming.

    Cons:

    the cord hook on the handle is a great idea, but it needs some kind of securing clip so the power cable doesnt slip out- it is at an awkward angle. String re-loads are tricky. -the website has a downloadable manuel that walks you through the re-string process.

    This trimmer sucks.!!!! Line feeds super quick !!! Replacing line almost impossible to get right. Gotta buy a new spool for $10 every time it goes empty. New spools don't fit right. I hate this thing.     The automatic line feed on this product is insane... encountering the slightest obstruction (the bark on the base of a tree, the top of a tree root, the face of a landscape stone, etc.) causes the trimmer to feed out line excessively.
