    BAD DESIGN AND PURCHASE!

I should have taken the reviews and suggestions from those who wrote reviews for this horrible product when buying it from Amazon.com. The first time I used this product on 08/26/2012, it works for about 15 minutes and then the string/wire started to tangle with the rotor. As soon as this happened, I started smelling motor burnging smells and seeing smokes coming out.
    Pros:

A waste of money and time.

    Cons:

A waste of money and time.

    Absolutely Horrible! NO STARS

This thing has injured me twice. It either advances too much line or none at all. It takes more than one spool just to finish my small front yard and I have to keep stopping to either advance the line or cut off line that has advanced too far. As of 4 days ago, it no longer works at all - the line wrapped around the shaft, I could not get it off and the shaft no longer turns. I'm saving my money for a Ryobi or Troy. (By the way, CRAIGHUNT either works for B&D or is talking about some other type of trimmer.)
    Pros:

    Nothing.

    Cons:

The painful injuries to my ankles and legs when I don't cut the line in time and the trimmer line advances up to 24". I have to carry my scissors with me when I trim the yard.

    Total disaster

My first trimmer and its replacement stopped working within 30 days of purchase (or swap for replacement). After suspecting my extension cord may have contributed to the breakage, I bought a third trimmer (and a new extension cord). Within 2 weeks, trimmer #3 stopped turning off (it ran whenever it was plugged in).
    Pros:

It worked great for the short time that it worked at all.

    Cons:

Each of three trimmers stopped working after only a few hours of usage.

Great for 1st reel line on purchase/on 2nd reel had trouble starting/on 3rd reel stopped completely.

After my Grasshog used the first line reel I replaced it with another and my legs were cut to pieces because the line kept flying out. When I went to fix it the line casing stuck and I couldn't get it out so I purchased the GH710. It was great for the 1st line reel even if it did cut my legs a couple of times because it bounced back if I hit something. On the 2nd line reel the motor wouldn't start a couple of times and I put it down to loose connections with my extentions cords. On the 3rd line reel my trimmer stopped completely. I tap it on the cement and I get a sickly try to start so I figure it's the motor. So I have a Grasshog that starts but I can't replace the reel line and the GH710 that doesn't start but reel line works. I keep a battery one in reserve but for a lot of weed-whacking it's useless. I just purchased a craftsman and will never buy B&D again.
    Pros:

While it lasted it was great.

    Cons:

Both this product and the Grasshog are dangerous until one gets used to them. It seems to be in the design itself with the guard. I've used both Sears and Torro for years and not once did either whip my legs nor did I have any problems with the line feed.

    My first big B&D disappointment

Like several other reviews, I've owned several previous B&D trimmers and expected this design to be a step-up but have been disappointed with its life span.
    Pros:

I actually had very few string problems with the one and only spool I used and I liked the ease of changing from weedeat mode to edging mode.

    Cons:

Just after replacing the first string spool (4 months use), the motor siezed up while doing routine trimming - very disappointing. I got it replaced free of charge, but if this happens again, I'm done with B&D. Also, I, too found the empty spool very difficult to reload - didn't even get a chance to see how successful I was.

Did they even product test this pathetic thing?

I can't remember the last time I bought a product that was good for about two hours. I had all the same problems that other people did (except for Mr. Hunt, who I am convinced lives a charmed life). The cord gets wrapped around the housing. That's a pain. Also, the cord just evaporates -- where does it go? After using it only two hours, it got such a bad tangle that I had to remove the spool -- and was surprised to see how little was left. And forget ease of replacement. It is almost impossible to feed the cord through the eyelets without having the cord get out of alignment on the spool. Unless it is wrapped with the precision of a heart transplant suture, it isn't going to work. They owe it to their customers to refund their money on this disaster. I would not buy Black and Decker product again, if this is their level of competency. For the cost of the unit, plus the cost of an extra spool, I should have just rented something.
    Pros:

It cut through the grass well, at least until the cord started getting wrapped around the housing. It was competitively priced, but then that's unimportant if it doesn't work.

    Cons:

Reliability, design. I mean, really, what else is there?

This is how Black & Decker rewards you for your $50

There aren't enough good points. Proprietary string, Power too strong to be a grass trimmer, etc etc. Why stay up late and watch the DR Brush mower in action, when you can get Black & Decker's answer to it right here for $50? This thing DESTROYS planters, both ends of the strin ALWAYS end up tangled up under the spool, and you CAN NOT buy and rewind yuou own string refills, as the machine will not cut it off.
    Pros:

    Its Orange.

    Cons:

It does not do what it is advertised to do. Shame on Lowes and Home Depot for marketing your JUNK!!!

Excellent Product...I highly recommend it !

I previously owned the Grasshog for 7 years. I used it a lot. Finally wore out.
    Pros:

The trimer works flawlessly. The sting comes out very nicely automatically. Lots of power. Very light. Like the dual string. The cost was reasonable. You can buy the line anywhere. I don't know why other people are having problems..Maybe they need to go to weed eater School!

    Cons:

The cost of the line is to high and I wish it had a harness for when you use it for hours. I have a huge yard!

    Miserable piece of junk!

I wish had read the reviews before I bought it. It was a replacement for a seven year old Homelite. Icould only get the GH710 at Home Depot. Sorry I did.
    Pros:

    NOTHING. NADA.

    Cons:

All the problems listed in other reviews. PS. Your "dragster" belt sander isn't much better and will be junked also.

    Poor design.

Same issues as other reviews, overfeeds line and wraps around under spool jamming motor. Had a bump feed B&D trimmer for years that finally quit working and thought this one would be as reliable, this model isnt worth the money, stay away from it. Would give it no stars if allowed.
    Pros:

    Nothing due to jamming issue.

    Cons:

    Automatic line feeding.
