5 min use, 11 hrs charge
First charge I left it on charger 24 hrs, got 5 minutes use. It's going back. How did this ever reach the store shelves.

It's a good idea. It worked well for 5 minutes

I can't trust Black & Decker any more, or the ratings, must be some factory rep bumping up the stars to two. How can I put in negative stars.

Where's the beef? No battery stamina whatsoever! Shame on B&D!
Love the ergonomics, but I can't get very far on one battery. This should have come with [2] minimum. This will not take the place of a gas trimmer.

Handles well, adjusts to comfortable setting. Easy on the arms because it only works for [20] minutes until battery dies.

I have 24V drills that use the same batteries, and they work fine. These things are either faulty or someone's idea of a cruel joke. Why even bother, unless they were going to put [2] batteries and a quick charger included with it.

Edit; Product even worse than imagined
I thought I could use the trimmer with a sturdier line, but now the autofeed mechanism fails completely, spitting all the line out immediately. I will be returning this tomorrow.

    worked well twice.

Everything. Particularly the autofeed mechanism. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!

I made a Black and Decker account just to give this product a negative review.
I feel like the Black and Decker engineers failed on many levels for this product. I was disappointed when I first opened the box, and saw I had to wait 11 hours for the battery to charge. Annoyed when the pre-wrapped line spool was tangled out of box, so the feeding mechanism failed. Ticked when once restrung correctly, the whole spool was worn down in 5 minutes, and absolutely furious once I realized a sturdier .065 stock line was incompatible with the trimmer (The blade was set too far from the base to snip the sturdier line as it extended. Flipping the blade around inside the guard allowed me to use the sturdier line). With the sturdier line, I was very pleased with how the product worked, until the battery died shortly after. While I understand that it is a battery, I feel like for the price and 9 hour charge time, Black and Decker should have shipped two batteries with this product.

Works well once modified to handle a sturdier .065 line.

Black and Decker needs to teach the children in China to properly wrap trimmer line if they are going to advertise their spools as "less likely to tangle." The line itself is really poor. Use a different brand stock and adjust the blade. 1 battery is insufficient to trim an entire yard. Black and Decker should supply two, and even then those with larger yards should not realistically expect this product to meet their needs. Minor issue: The trigger is surprising awkward to hold; the thumb safeties are difficult to engage and annoying for stop-go-trimming.

    Tired of replacing the string
The battery life is what it is. I bought a second battery and got over it. I'm into my second season with and now I don't think my trimmer is releases the string correctly. Either the replacement spools are flawed (B&D likely re-sourced to China) and aren't made correctly OR the release mechanism is worn out. After resetting a new spool, a bunch of string flys out and either I cut it or re-spool it. Either way it is not the badass trimmer I bought 3 years ago. Oh yeah the manual was no effing help. Each spool indicates this as if to taunt to me that I need to back to manual.

Its light, with 2 batteries I get the job done.

The string debacle mentioned in the review.

    High Expectation / Low Performance
We had two gas trimmers which were too heavy for me to operate. I do several yards in our neighbourhood, and as I'm of short stature, I needed something easier to manage. B&D, in our minds, had a good rep so we were prepared to pay a bit extra. After charging the battery as per the instructions, the first time out I was very happy with the results. However, we noticed that the battery was holding a charge for shorter times each time it was charged. As I was doing three yards, I could barely get one yard done before the battery needed charging - for 12 hours each time - which meant that I could never get all yards done in one day. Eventually, I couldn't even get our own yard done on one charge. Besides that, the switch was faulty - couldn't turn the thing off. We resolved that by permanently fixing the setting with a plastic tie-back.

Properly weighted and balanced for a short person (I'm 5'2""). While the battery was functioning at optimum, it worked great.

Completely disgusted with the performance of the battery. Will never go with a Ni-Cad battery-operated trimmer again. Replacement battery is $90 - at that price, we decided to go with a different brand entirely. So disappointed with B&D over this waste of money.

    Battery Life is a Joke
While the battery lasts this is a great trimmer. However, the battery life (15-20 mins in normal mode) & 9 hours to recharge are a joke. This is ridiculous, who can trim their whole yard in 15-20 minutes? The rated area on the box indicated 750 sq ft. I estimated how much I was able to do with the one I purchased (& returned); the 1st charge I got <100 sq ft., but I used boost mode for a couple of short bursts just as a test in some heavier grass & I've often found the 1st charge on rechargeable batteries doesn't last as long as subsequent ones. The 2nd charge, did <400 sq ft. in what I would call normal grass trimming use for the most part (<50 sq. ft. heavy grass), along fences & landscaping. I liked everything else about this trimmer, but the battery life & recharge time make this trimmer useless. I would have to have 3 batteries (& 3 chargers since the manual says to leave the batteries on the charger when not in use) in order to ensure I could do my yard & landscaping perimeter.

-Auto feed works great -No cords, gas, or exhaust fumes -Plenty of power for my normal grass trimming needs -Ease in changing line spools (it works the same as a corded B&D model I had for years until the line cutter/hood broke). -For really small yards, if you're willing to get a 2nd battery & charger, this trimmer is probably a good value. With the initial purchase price being so low (I paid about $80 at Menards on sale), one can afford a second battery, even though the ones I found were over half the price I paid for the trimmer.

-Very poor battery life -Battery recharge time (9 hours)

    Battery - WORST EVER
This unit does a great job on edging and regular string trimming. It is light and very well designed. What makes this review a one star review, is the products absolutely horrific, shameful, insulting, and embarrassing battery life. One would assume that the company would have replaced the regular 24V battery, with a 24V LITHIUM battery by now, but that is not the case. It takes 10 to 11 HOURS of charging, to make this battery work for 10 to 15 MINUTES. Black and Decker should be ashamed of themselves. I registered with Black and Decker only to write this review.

besides the battery, it's a very good design

The battery makes this product crap. Also it's unfortunate that you must buy spools instead of replacement string, it's more expensive and wasteful. They should make a Lithium battery replacement for this model .

    Poor Battery life!
I had a Grasshog 12V for 8-9 years. I could trim my whole 1/4 acre with it. This one does not even do my front yard!!!! It dies within 15-20 mins, even after a full 9 hr charge. This is on the normal setting - Boost kills the battery in 3-5 mins!

Rotate head to trim at any angle.

Battery life! Dies very quickly on Normal setting.
