Overall the mower seems well built to do the job. But it is heavy. It mulches well.

It cuts grass well but is a little hard to manuver due to it's length. The blade cuts too far back frome the front.
    Pros:

Well built. Non-steel housing. Good battery life. Does the job well. I highly recommend this product

    Cons:

The speed control on the TURDLE setting is too fast, especially if mulching. A HI/LOW switch that would cut the factory speed in half would be a step towards perfection. Rear cutting discharge clogs as the rear deflector blockd the discharge path. A poor design.

    Skeptical

A battery operated mower was not even a consideration for me when I went to buy my new mower. The sales person asked me why I needed a gas mower. I replied that I needed rear wheel drive as my front lawn has a hill on it and it's too hard to push a heavy mower. The salesman showed me this B&D mower, and I was instantly intrigued, but still very hesitant with a battery operated mower. But the reason I was buying a new mower was because I could not get my gas mower to run. After weighing the odds, I started to see there were more pros than cons with this particular model. I decided to purchase it. I have used it 8-10 times and not once have I been disappointed. I was very worried that I would not have enough battery to complete the job, but I always have at least 1/3 of battery when finished. Overall I am very satisfied with this product so far!
    Pros:

Ease of use. Even with the heavy battery, still lighter than any rear wheel drive mower out there. Easy to clean!

    Cons:

Non really. I see everybody comment on the door for the mulching won't stay closed. It is not a major issue, very petty. I always mulch and don't use the bag, and don't have an issue with this.

Just perfect, I went with the self propelled and it is a little heavy but the cm1936 is the one to get all of the options except switch on the fly and self propelled
    Pros:

Quiet, no gas , no oil , no mainenance

    Cons:

I look forward to a 20" blade model

    Solid, Mulching Machine

I am not new to battery operated mowers. I still have my first one after 7 years and runs perfectly (the B&D is my 2nd one). However, my first one does not mulch well - it clumps. We just had a sprinkler system put in this spring and I am mowing the lawn every 5 days. The bagging thing has gotten old. So, the #1 thing I wanted was a good mulching mower. Dare I say that I almost went with a gasser...until I read the review by a consumer magazine. They rated the mulching power of B&D as excellent....and so it appears to be. Two additional ++'s is that it is a 19" cutter vs my old 14 incher + it is self-propelled - Sweeet!! My yard is a typical "1/4 acer" - however after all the landscaping the actual lawn is smaller. I generally have fertilizer left over from a 5000 sq feet bag. The point? Battery life is not a issue. I have battery to spare when done. I truly love the benefits of battery mowers. If you gotta cut the lawn make it easy on your self and go battery!
    Pros:

One lever wheel adjustment - 7 levels. Self propelled, 19 inch cut, quiet, easy to clean, mulches well, cuts smoothly, powerful motor, can charge with battery in mower, can "drive" it without blade moving, solid construction, bright orange color (yeah!), safety key, 30 day no quibble return if you don't like it, easy to assemble (2 screws).

    Cons:

36 volt battery is heavy, hopefully in future may use lighter battery chemistry.

The lawn mower is great for my small yard in Southern California.

The lawn mower has worked very well. My yard has only 1,500 sq ft. of lawn, hence there is always plenty of battery power. I purchased this model because I need to have a self propelled mower. I keep the mower set a the slowest speed. I mulch my lawn 99% of the time. If the lawn is long it will some times bog down and I need to make another pass over the area. This is not a show stopper.
    Pros:

Easy storage: I fold the mower down the way is came in the box and store is vertically in my garage. Battery has plenty of power, is easy to install, and remove to connect to the charger. Easy to operate and the power drive is well designed.

    Cons:

The blocking device designed to stop grass from going into the discharge shoot does not stay closed when in the mulch mode. There is a gap about 1/4 inch. I have tried to close the gap, but cannot without disabling the ability open and close the mulching device. This is a very poor design. The mower does not have enough power to cut the grass when it is wet. Grass sticks to the under side of the deck. The under side of the deck must be cleaned when you are finished mowing the lawn. The jury is still out on the replacement cost the battery. The decision to purchase another battery powered lawn mower will be determined on how long the original battery lasts. $200. is more than I am willing to pay for a new battery.

customer service for black and decker is terrible

Bought this and one month later it stoppped accepting a charge. Troubleshooting didn't work, so I had to ship it for service. They charged me $100 to repair it, saying I, "hit a rock" and that was the cause of the problem. When I asked them to explain, the offered no viable answers. This is after they held my mower for over three weeks without contacting me. I've been a loyal customer for Black and Decker over the years but this product and lousy customer service has soured me on their products. Do not buy this item.
    Pros:

It is difficult to have anything positive to say about a product that works for a month.

    Cons:

    The customer service is terrible.

    PERFORMS AS DESCRIBED

I have a small yard (total lot 1/5 acre). After using the battery powered mower for a few weeks, I have found it to perform at least to expectations if not beyond. I accidentally left it off charge after a mowing on a very hot day when I was in a hurry, but it completed the next mowing without a hitch — only showing minor slowing, if any, toward the last. It was noisy toward the beginning, but has quietened considerably after a few uses. I am still unsure how long the battery will last without replacement, but we will have to cross that bridge when it happens.
    Pros:

I like not having to mess with the smelly (and expensive) fuel and (noxious fumes) exhaust. I also like the fact that little heat is generated during a mowing job. It is relatively easily cleaned and takes much less room in storage that other mowers we have had.

    Cons:

It is somewhat heavy — close to the weight of a gasoline powered mower. The lowest speed is just a little fast for my taste, so I usually use it only when starting (particularly up-hill). Its wet grass performance leaves something to be desired, so we need to wait until all dew is gone before use to keep it from bogging down. This requires mowing usually when it is hotter and never less than several hours after a shower.

    Best Lawn Mower Yet

Last year I moved to Charleston, SC and did not want to deal with gas and oil for any lawn tools. I purchased the CM1936 in April of last year and was very satisfied with it. Never ran out of power between cuttings and it mulched fairly well. I have some small hills and when it is 95 degrees out and at my age going up hill pushing the CM1936 was quite a chore. So, I find out that B&D now offer a self propelled cordless and since I liked the CM1936 so much, I decided purchase the SPCM1936. It is almost the same as the CM1936, but, self propelled and a few improvements like one button mulch-discharge adjustment, the folding handle now has pull out spring loaded lock studs which eliminates the need to unscrew the butterfly nuts to fold and store, and a battery with a charge indicator. I love this mower!! It actually mulches better than the CM1936 (no small trail of grass) and the self propelled is great. One has to get used to how it works it is totally easy.
    Pros:

-Design -Ruggedness -Low sound level -Non rusting base -Easy height setting -Easy handle adjustment and folding -Self propelled -Charge lasts for entire lawn (less than 1/3 acre)

    Cons:

-Slightly heavy -Charger connector not always easy to engage -Rear wheel drive not as easy to maneuver as front wheel drive

    Love this mower!

I just purchased this mower and find it to be one of the best I've ever used. Found I was hoping for a bigger lawn just to keep cutting. Very satisifed.
    Pros:

Easy to use. Love the easy adjustable handle for lowering and raising the wheels. Relatively quiet. Cuts wonderfully.

    Cons:

Honestly, don't have anything negative to say so far. Totally in love with this lawn mower.
