- Before you start cooking, make sure that you have everything you need to create your personalized pizzas. To make a pizza you will need flour (we recommend using semolina or double zero), pizza dough, sauce, and any topping(s) of your choice. To use your oven, you will need: your choice of fuel, fire starters, BLACK+DECKER 12 in. wooden and metal peels. We recommend using the BLACK+DECKER pizza oven stand to cook on or a metal surface.

- BLACK+DECKER vera™ 12 in. pizza oven works with three different fuel sources: wood pellets, wood, and charcoal. Follow the steps below based on the fuel sources you are using. Before igniting, ensure the pellet scoop is removed from the chimney, and the flume knob is vertical.
- Wood pellets: Load 2 fire starters into the fuel drawer and use the pellet scoop to add two scoops of wood pellets into the fuel box without covering the fire starters. Using a lighter, light the fire starters and place the fuel box into the oven. Continue to add scoops of wood pellets through the pellet hopper every 3-5 minutes until the oven reaches your desired temperature. Continue to monitor while cooking to make sure the oven is at ideal cooking temperature (750 - 850°F)
- Wood: Load 2 fire starters into the fuel drawer and then load pieces of wood on top, leaving the fire starters visible. Using a lighter, light the fire starters and place the fuel box into the oven. Continue to add a piece of wood to the fuel box every 3-5 minutes until the oven reaches your desired temperature. Continue to monitor while cooking to make sure the oven is at ideal cooking temperature (750 - 850°F)
- Charcoal: Load 2 fire starters into the fuel drawer and then load pieces of charcoal on top, leaving the fire starters visible. Using a lighter, light the fire starters and place the fuel box into the oven. Continue to add pieces of charcoal to the fuel box every 3-5 minutes until the oven reaches your desired temperature. Continue to monitor while cooking to make sure the oven is at ideal cooking temperature (750 - 850°F)

- Before you launch your pizza into the oven double check that the handle is unfolded and in place to be turned, the flame is over the stone, and check that the stone is the desired temperature using an infrared thermometer. Shake the wooden peel to check that the dough is not sticking and use a quick shaking motion to transfer your pizza from the BLACK+DECKER 12 in. wooden pizza peel onto the stone. Use the window to monitor your pizza and the handle to rotate your pizza until it has reached your desired doneness. Once you are ready to remove your pizza grab your BLACK+DECKER 12 in. metal pizza peel and slide it between the pizza dough and stone. Use the peel to pull your pizza slowly out of the oven, then cut and enjoy!

- Before cleaning your oven, let the fire burn out and wait at least 60 minutes for the unit to cool down. Once it has cooled completely empty the ash from the fuel drawer into a fire safe container, clean the glass with a wet paper towel, and scrape any residue off the stone. If you are having trouble cleaning the stone flip it over and it will burn off during your next cook. (Do not clean the stone with water or any liquids.)
